Winter Fiber Installations: What to Expect

Winter weather doesn’t stop fiber Internet, but it can change how we finish the outside portion of your installation.

If the ground is frozen or snow-covered, we may complete your installation in a few steps:

1) Bring an outside line to your building
2) Come back to set up WiFi inside your home
3) Return when the ground thaws to neatly bury the outside line safely and permanently

You’ll still get fast, reliable service in the meantime.

  • First, our crew extends the fiber network to your home property and places the outside line to your home so everything is ready for activation.

    • Fiber is run to your home from our network
    • The outside line is placed in a safe route for winter conditions
    • No indoor setup happens during this visit

This step prepares your location for your scheduled in-home appointment.

  • Next, at your scheduled appointment, our technician will complete the in-home portion of your installation:

    • Install and activate your indoor equipment
    • Set up your WiFi network
    • Confirm your connection is working before leaving
    • Answer questions and review next steps

After this visit, you’re connected and ready to use your service!

  • When weather and ground conditions allow, we’ll come back to complete the final outside finishing work:

    • Bury the fiber line at the proper depth
    • Secure the route neatly and safely
    • Restore the area as needed

This last step is scheduled once conditions are right for a clean, permanent finish.

A Few Quick Tips for Winter Installs

To help everything go smoothly:

• Clear snow from the area where utilities enter your home, if possible
• Keep pets secured during your appointment
• Let us know if there’s a preferred route for the outside line (to avoid a driveway, walkway, or snowblower path)
• Please don’t move, cut, or cover the outside line yourself
